HISTORY OF THE ‘STOFFLERWIRT’ – HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Our history goes back to the 18th century, until the former inn finally came into the possession of the Doppler family in 1933.
Back in the 18th century, at the time of Maria Theresa, today’s ‘Stofflerwirt’ was granted tavern rights, which authorised the serving of drinks and food. At that time, the neighbourhood around the hotel consisted of 3 farmhouses. These were the ‘Feldnerbauer’ (now master builder Bogensperger), the ‘Sandergut’ (now a farm building) and the ‘Oberfeldnerbauer’, now the ‘Stofflerwirt’. The owner was a certain Stefan Karner. In the vernacular, he was called ‘Stoff’, which led to the house name/vulgar name ‘Stoffler’, i.e. ‘Stofflerwirt’.
After changing hands several times, the inn and the associated farm came into the possession of the Doppler family in 1933. Franz Doppler bought the property at auction and had the ‘Stofflerwirt’ inn rebuilt (1953 to 1956). In 1970, Peter Doppler Senior took over the business and undertook several conversions and extensions. In 1980, for example, an extension was built on the site of the former Oberfeldner estate, which had been demolished in 1962. This laid the foundation stone from the former ‘Bauernhof im Feld’ to today’s ‘Stofflerwirt’ country hotel.
Peter Doppler Junior has been running the business together with his family since 1st of January 2005. In spring 2005, the farm was closed down and an extension was built on the site of the former stable building – where our suites are located today. This project was realised in just 12 weeks. Under the management of Peter Doppler Junior, numerous other projects have followed since 2005, such as the construction of the staff house, a conservatory in the restaurant, renovation of the rooms and the construction of a passenger lift.
