Ski Touring

If you would like to experience something really special during your winter vacation, then you should definitely give a ski tour through the Lungau's snowy mountain world a try.  All the effort that goes into the ascent is more than amply rewarded when you reach the summit, with glorious views and the anticipation of the rapid descent that awaits you.  One of the most fantastic experiences for tourers is undoubtedly the descent from the Preber, one of the most well-known destinations for ski tourers in the Eastern Alps.  In the Tauern valleys of the Lungau, you will discover all types of tour, ranging from easy to expert.

Snowshoeing

A very different way to experience winter in the Lungau.  Outfitted with special snowshoes, you will set out into the deep snow. Far removed from the hectic activity of the major ski slopes and lifts, you will be able to discover magnificent countryside and cut your own tracks across the pristine snow. Allow Mother Nature to work her magic on you and take in a deep breath of the clear mountain air.

Tobogganing

After enjoying refreshments at the Gamskogelhütte, a rustic ski lodge on the Katschberg, it's time to grab a one- or two-person sledge and hit the floodlit toboggan run that will take you all the way back down to the Katschberg ski center.

Ice Stock

A popular sport in the Lungau region, very similar to curling, one in which visitors are cordially invited to participate.  There are many ice-stock rinks in the area, while there are also organized beginners' tournaments for newcomers to the sport.  People in the Lungau actually use their own hand-crafted equipment, which you are certainly welcome to borrow!
